I upgraded to this from a Coronado P.S.T. and I am extremely happy with it. With the P.S.T., you needed to double-stack it to get any detail at all and there was always a lack of uniformity due to the tuning mechanism but this telescope provides breath-taking, detailed views right out of the box. You don’t even need to double-stack it. It really is that good!

I had. a PST for 10 years and loved it, and then I got a 60mm Lunt and it is vastly better than the 40mm PST. Image is so much bigger, brighter and better ! Absolutely worth upgrading to this size. Single stack is wonderful too. I enjoy this scope every sunny day

Excellent upgrade from my Coronado 70. Pressure tuning sidesteps all of the uneven tuning issues found with tilting etalons and my full disc images are now free of gradients

I’m a “buy once, cry once” kinda person. So when I was researching how to get into solar observing and imaging I came across Lunt’s dedicated line of solar scopes. Sure I can get a white light filter or Quark for my existing telescopes but those got mixed reviews. If I was going into solar observing and imaging I wanted the best in the market and purchased the Lunt 60mm. The Lunt 60mm is my 1st solar scope and the views of the sun is amazing! Don’t let the size fool you, it is a hefty boy and is heavier than what I expected. The feel and build quality is excellent.
Pressure tuning works well; I can adjust it to see the prominence or surface details. But know that the pressure tuner knob takes effort to turn; it’s not like turning a fine feather touch focuser. It is easy to reconfigure the scope if you are mounting it on an Alt/Az mount or EQ mount. Be aware that if mounting it on an Alt/Az mount you’ll want to make sure the pressure turning knob is on the opposite side of the mount head. Initially, I had the pressure tuning knob on the mount head side and had it crash into my AM5 when going to a home position (user error). With a 12mm blocking filter and it being just single stacked, I am able to see to the surface and prominence. Will I get the front double stack unit? Eventually, but I’m very satisfied with what I can already view with it being single stacked; a testament to Lunt’s craftsmanship.
The Lunt zoom eyepiece works nicely, turning the zoom is smooth, and the views are clear, crisp, and sharp. However, this being my first viewing telescope I’m going to be investing in other prime eyepieces for better eye relief and field of view. TBH, if i were to do it again, I’d purchase a prime eyepiece from either Lunt or from Baader or Televue. But the Lunt zoom eyepiece is a great starting point.
I purchased the Lunt 60mm with the 6″ dovetail but noticed that it get’s dented by the Skywatcher Solarquest’s dovetail locking knob. I’ve recently switched to a William Optics dovetail which hasn’t dented.
Lastly, I appreciate Lunt provided a padded carrying case for the scope and accessories. And the case still has room when I purchase the front double stack unit and extra eye pieces. Lunt did quote me a 3 – 4 month waiting period but they were able to source the feather touch focuser much faster than anticipated and I got the whole package in 1 month. Please note that if you order a solar scope with a feather touch focuser, it is this piece that is the limiting factor (well, for my order it was but i was happy to received the order sooner than later so no complaints)
I’ve since used my Lunt 60mm every weekend morning and everyday during my 1 week break from work. I’m glad to have received it just in time for solar maximum, as of this writing of course, and couldn’t recommend enough getting a Lunt telescope.
