The LS80 brings serious aperture to hydrogen-alpha observation. With 80mm of light-gathering power through a 560mm f/7 doublet objective, this telescope reveals solar detail that smaller instruments simply cannot match: finer prominence structure, more subtle filament threading, and greater contrast across active regions.

The internal pressure-tuned etalon features Doppler True Barometric Pressure Tuning for precise bandpass optimization. A turn of the pressure knob shifts the etalon bandpass smoothly across the entire 80mm aperture, letting you scan through the chromosphere in depth. No angle-dependent sweet spots, no compromised edges of the field. Uniform <0.65Å performance from center to edge.

The integrated solar handle with built-in red dot finder transforms setup and transport. Carry the telescope securely with one hand while the finder stays permanently aligned and ready. Mount it, point it, and you are observing.

What You'll See

Eighty millimeters of aperture collects four times the light of a 40mm instrument and more than twice the light of a 50mm. The difference is visible immediately. Prominences resolve into finer structural detail: individual threads, knots, and flow patterns become apparent where smaller apertures show smooth arcs. Filaments reveal more subtle contrast against the chromospheric background, with finer threading and sharper boundaries. Active regions display greater complexity, with small-scale brightenings and magnetic detail emerging from the noise floor. Pressure tuning through the Doppler True system puts you in control. Shift toward the blue wing and watch prominences brighten against the limb. Shift toward the red and surface structure sharpens. The 19mm flat-field eyepiece provides 29x magnification for comfortable full-disk views and prominence surveys, with the same 0.1% AR coatings used across the Lunt eyepiece line.

Why This Package

If you want the resolution and contrast that only real aperture can deliver, the LS80 Complete Kit is your entry point. The B1200 blocking filter with 12mm clear aperture provides generous field illumination from the start, and the 2" dual-speed focuser with 10:1 fine focus gives you the mechanical precision that 80mm of aperture demands. The solar handle with integrated red dot finder is purpose-built for telescopes of this size. It replaces the separate finder bracket and mounting hardware of smaller scopes with a single, integrated solution that stays aligned and makes the telescope genuinely portable despite its larger aperture.

Package Includes

  • LS80 OTA: 80mm aperture, 560mm f/7 doublet objective. Internal pressure-tuned etalon (Doppler True Barometric Pressure Tuning), <0.65Å bandpass.
  • B1200 Blocking Filter: 12mm clear aperture. Proprietary filter stack for safe H-alpha observation.
