Product Description

The excitement of viewing our Star through a dedicated solar telescope is sure to provide many many hours of visual enjoyment and educational insights. This package is fully upgradeable at any time without ever having to go back to the factory. As the Sun becomes increasingly more active, you will appreciate that the instrument can grow right along with it.

The Lunt LS60THa Solar Telescope, complete with a Pressure Tuner,  provides the basic essentials perfect for a first time introduction to solar observing, while also including the newest technology for fine tuning, allowing basic research of the Sun’s disk and some surface details.

True Doppler Tuning (Pressure Tuning) allows for a shift into and away from the user, adding a 3D-like component to the viewing experience. While it has minimal effect on proms due to their being at the edge of the disk, it does have an effect on filaments and active regions on the surface. While looking at a filament at the center of the Sun the user has the ability to Doppler shift from the base of the filament to the tip, following the filament through it’s structure toward you and away from you, allowing for enhanced visual and imaging capability for the observer as well as a research tool for the avid hobbyist. The pressure tuning system provides an order of magnitude more precision to the tuning of the desired features.

1 review for Lunt LS60THa Solar Telescope – Pressure-Tuned

I have had this scope for well over a year now. Can say it is a solid unit, built to withstand public outreach events and personal sun viewings. My most used scope. Amazing views of sunspots, prominence, filaments, and granulation. The sun is always changing and never boring. Well worth every penny paid. Pressures stay relatively constant, with only a slight loss, after hours viewing in the hot sun. Only have single stack, but wished I had purchased the double stack version. Could have saved some money, as opposed to getting the double stack later. Only had one recent problem, which was a quick fix, with one phone call to Lunt. Noticed the B600 diagonal’s first green filter had something growing on it, causing some viewing blockage. Attempted to clean it and was unable. Called the helpful people at Lunt. They shipped out a replacement green filter glass. Easy to put in. The humid Florida environment was causing a slight deterioration of the coating on the glass. Glad to have a five year warranty. My Astronomy Club is going to purchase two new Lunt sun scopes, of this type, for more public outreach events. I thank the Lunt company for designing such a wonderful piece of equipment. Scott (Florida).
