Larry Alvarez is an avid solar photographer. He has had numerous images posted on the Space Weather website and has also contributed to the Soho telescope website in the form of the Outreach Spotlight for 2006. He started shooting the Sun in h-alpha 2000 and has continued on for the last decade recording both images and creating videos of several solar phenomenon. His equipment consists of a Lunt 152 H-alpha Solar telescope, Calcium K-line Lunt Solar Wedge module for the 152, Whitelight Lunt Solar Wedge, and 60mm front mounted Lunt filter. You can find Larry on Facebook by searching for “Armicheal Solar” or visit his website at: http://mysite.verizon.net/armicheal/. He also frequently visits the Lunt Discussion Forum.
Larry started in solar photography after losing 60lbs through diet and exercise. His reward for losing the weight was to get a small stream lined telescope that would have a big impact. An H-alpha solar telescope was the scope of choice for him. The best part about daytime imaging, according to Larry, is that you always know where the target is, it’s easy to find and there are relatively no mosquitos. Aside from avid solar imaging Larry also holds a black belt in martial arts and is a graduate of DeVry Institute of
Technology. His knowledge of working with electronics was a big plus when developing some of the imaging cameras that he uses to shoot the Sun with.
