Picture Coming Soon….

Lunt Introduced our Demo LS50F/S at the NEAF show in order to get some feedback on wether or not this system had any interest.. Well the interest was obviously very positive….

Many people do not know that Lunt have produced solid etalon systems at many wavelengths and bandwidths to commercial applications.. Most of these systems have been very highly specified to specific applications.

Given Lunts new spacer technology we now have the ability to “semi” mass produce these systems at the 656.28nm wavelength..

Typical specifications will include a 47mm aperture, solid fused silica spacer layer, hybrid dielectric coatings at high R, and thermal tuning with remote hand held battery, and an external power operated design (as shown at NEAF). Systems will have a typical bandpass of 0.4 Angstroms, but due to the highly critical nature of the spacer thickness when determining bandwidth, each etalon will be measured for final specification.

The Solid Etalon systems will require a front mounted ERF (Lunt will provide specifications on available ERFs soon). The system will also require a typical Lunt blocking filter arrangement.. (The FSR will be matched to existing blocking filter specs)

The Solid Etalon system can be provided with simple IR/AR windows for use in collimated systems, or Lunt will provide a matched collimating/refocus set for the users telescope. These matched sets will be interchangeable when switching from one scope to another.
The matched CC/CX lens sets will simplify the optical setup and can be utilized on most user scopes. The advantage being the maintaining of the effective F-ratio of the user scope and not being forced to observe at high magnification. Using the matched sets will require that the Solid Etalon system be placed at the correct position in the light path.

Price: Pricing has not yet been set.. Please check back or e-mail sales@luntsolarsystems.com

Availability: Custom Orders. Lunt is currently in production on this system. Orders will be accepted upon completion and testing of the individual units..

Picture coming soon……

Lunt introducted the Prototype PC1 at NEAF in order to get some feedback regarding functionality of the control system.

The PC1 controller was met with rave reviews and only a few tweeks were needed to the system once all the feedback was considered.

The PC1 is a microprocessor controlled, remote operable, pressure control system that can be retrofitted to any Lunt PT product without return to the Lunt facility. A simple 1/8″ airline connects the PC1 to the Solar Telescope and can be installed at any length.

The PC1 is currently configured to control one PT system. However, it will also be available in a dual control configuration in order to control both the internal PT systems that are currently in production, and also the external PT filter systems for double stack which will be available soon. (also demo’d at NEAF). Or, 2 Lunt PT systems.

The PC1 can run continuously on internal battery power for more than 12 hours. It has external power input (12-15VDC) (120/240VAC to 12V adapter) that can power the unit and charge the internal batteries simultaneously.

All existing PT systems can be retrofitted via an adapter to the pressure tuner knob. Or, future PT units can be specified with a quick disconnect at the PT input, removing the PT knob from the telescope altogether.

Upon power up the PC1 will go thru a systems vent and ambient pressure set mode. (60 secs)

The PC1 can be used at any altitude.

The PC1 can be factory or user programmed to center wavelength setpoint. Due to the sealed nature of the system, the center wavelength setpoint will remain constant at any altitude at a given set pressure point.

The PC1 is accurate to 0.3PSI, providing very precise control of the pressure setpoint. The PC1 will auto-compensate for fluctuations in internal pressure changes due to significant changes in temperature.

Because the PC1 can provide closed-loop feedback of internal etalon pressure users can correlate change in pressure to doppler shifted events.

The PC1 is a simple 2 button system. One button for increasing and one button for decreasing the PT pressure. Digital feedback and indicator lights are provided.

Price: US$599.00

Availability: 2 weeks ARO (subject to stock on hand)

Please check with your Lunt dealer or buy direct from lunt at sales@luntsolarsystems.com

New Eyepieces from Lunt…..

Lunt is proud to introduce our new family of Eyepieces that are optimized at the 656nm wavelength.

Our new eyepieces are not only stylized in the Lunt Red and Black color scheme, the coatings are also optimized at 656nm in order reduce back reflections when used for Hydrogen-alpha observing.

The Lunt Eyepieces have the very same AR coatings that we currently incorporate into our Etalons. At <0.1% AR, they utilize the highest specification for Anti-reflective coatings available in the industry.

The Lunt Eyepiece optical design was chosen in order to provide an optimum range of eye relief and FOV.

I have been interested in solar astronomy since 1975. Me and my wife Joanne are chasing solar eclipses and have now observed 40 solar eclipses and 5 transits. I founded the solar eclipse mailing list in 1997, the solar eclipse newsletter in 1996 and organised international solar eclipse conferences at non-central solar eclipse year.

Tweeting about the solar eclipse calendar see @PatrickPoitevin and blogspot at http://solareclipsespp.blogspot.com/

My wife bought me as a present the Lunt 35 DMK41, in preparation for the next eclipses or transits. I am for sure enjoying the Lunt35 very much.

See images below taken from Derbyshire, UK. Enjoy!
